About Pulsed Xenon Light Sources
How Pulsed Xenon Works
Pulsed xenon light sources emit high level of full spectrum ultraviolet, visible, and near infrared wavelengths. They are available in wattages high above low pressure mercury lamps.
When the pulsed xenon lamp is powered, it emits a broad spectrum of UV-VIS-IR light (100-1,000nm+), with peaks in the UV-A, UV-B, and UV-C ranges.
Is Pulsed Xenon More Effective Than Mercury Lamps for Ultraviolet Disinfection?
While some sources have suggested that pulsed light disinfection is more efficient than using mercury ultraviolet bulbs, most studies comparing the two have shown no significant advantage to pulsed xenon lamps.
Under certain conditions, pulsed UV may offer an advantage due to its greater ability to penetrate through certain materials like liquids or foodstuffs. It is also possible that the UVB radiation of pulsed xenon lamps may inhibit photoreactivation in some microbes.
