About Cinema Xenon Lamps
The xenon short arc lamp used in cinema projectors is one of the main upkeep costs of the equipment, and is a highly specialized technology in its own right. They have been in wide use since the 1970s, replacing carbon arc lamps.
Digital cinema projectors require a high light output for brighter screen illumination, as well as daylight quality of the light. Xenon cinema lamps have a 6200K average color temperature, approaching the color temperature of the sun, as well as a high color rendering index close to 100. This makes them ideal for screen projection.
